The Dragons defeat O-D at the Bobcat Den to win the Northland Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
Amberly O'Dell was simply outstanding, scoring 31 points, including 2-three's and 13 of 14 from the line...and I can't say any of her shots were forced...she did a great job of controlling the floor and letting the shots come to her. She doesn't wow you with athleticism but she is a very smart player and great leader, and certainly deserves All-State considerations.
Desiree Gilbert added 12 points, including 6 of 6 from the line, and had a strong night on the boards for the Dragons.
O-D was led by the Boyle twins...with Angela scoring 19 and Amber 13. Gabrielle Minix netted a dozen points. These three players give the Bobcats a very formidable inside-outside game.
This game was close throughout, with Argos up by 6 after the first quarter, O-D up 2 at the half and leading by 1 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats probably feel they let one get away tonight as they only made 12 of 24 at the line, and also shot a very low percentage behind the three point arch, which is usually one of their strengths.
But give Argos credit as they appeared to have a decisive advantage on the boards and earned the victory down the stretch at the line hitting 14 of 14 in the last 4 and 1/2 minutes of the game, after trailing 44-41.
Overall, it was a hard fought game and fun to watch. My feeling is O-D will be the team to beat come Sectional time as they are still playing without one of their starters (and best players around), Aubrey Minix, and as mentioned they had an uncharacteristic poor shooting night from the perimeter. But for now, Argos is still the NAC champion and top-ranked team in 1A.
