Basketball in northwest Indiana should be the strongest it has been in many years with many teams and individuals receiving statewide recognition! Barring injuries and academic causalities IMHO my pre-season dandy dozen in alphabetical order looks like this
Andrean – Will be better than last years’ version.
Boone Grove – Some big shoes to replace but still one of the areas’ better teams.
Chesterton – Most of the starters return and they will play a prominent role in who wins the DAC and they will be in the fight.
East Chicago Central – Young guns a year older and better but some talented and experienced players have graduated and their big shoes must be filled! Key member must return from injury also!
Gary West Side – Year in and year out, they maintain their position as one of the best in the area/state and this year will NOT be an exception.
Lake Central – Look for the Indians to jump out of the gate very fast this season in the DAC with their top seven playing together almost the entire summer and fall!
Lew Wallace – About ready to step up to the next level.
Merrillville – The key to season may lie with how far the volleyball team plays into their state tournament which would delay the BB success until around Christmas time but then.... watch out!
Valparaiso - See Gary West Side and Merrillville comments, both apply here!
Washington Township – Another fine run by the Senators this year.
Wheeler – Loaded for bear (cats) as they make their first run in the LAC.
Whiting – Quite a duo up near the lake. ...the Oilers.should be fun to watch and will make a run.
Just outside but looking in.
Crown Point – What a pair of guards but the DAC is loaded with teams with good guards and also great size that the Bulldogs lack this year!
Griffith – A steady program that shows they are well coached.
Hammond Morton – My sleeper for ’04 “IF” all the players return from last year
Horace Mann – Butler and company not too bad.
