Has there been a listing of who was on the All Marion County team this year? If so, please list, as I have not seen it in Indy Star yet...(the Boys were listed today...)

Give it up dell, We're tired of it. I'm sure the players who actually LIVE in the City or go to school in the City are tired of it, too!

"I'm sure the players who actually LIVE in the City or go to school in the City are tired of it, too! " Easy fix here bballfanantic - pick up your game, and get chosen. pretty simple. This one doesn't scriminate on where you live, just where you play. If the player is playing BY THE RULES, why should it matter? Congrats to all of the POY's selected this season. They all truly deserve the honors. It's these types of players that make watching them a ton of fun.

bballfanatic, how about just changing your name to bballlunatic??? I realize that trying to defend a girl from New Palestine being named "City" Player of the Year is a difficult position to be in, but really...is this the best you can do? Are you 5 years old?

"scriminate" It doesn't seem to DIScriminate as to WHERE you PLAY either. 75th Street is NOT the City.

Have New Palestine players been included in City honors in the past? If so, then the precedent was already set.

The "New Pal" girl attends and plays for Heritage Christian, which participates in the City Tournament, hence the City player of the year. What dell and bballfanatic want is an IPS player of the year.
And don't start the argument that Heritage shouldn't be in the City tourney. Been there, done that.

The same argument applies. If Heritage Christian players have been included in City honors before, then the precedent was set.

Sorry about the verbage and spelling errors. The point I was making was reflected by doughboyhcs. I'm always amazed at how some here insisted on belittling acomplishments made by some of these young ladies. At the end of the day, does it really matter where a line is drawn on a map? This player would have stood out regarless, and probably more so on a lessor team. I guess, no matter what, the sour grape patrol would continue to roll on. Last time I checked, HC was still within the city boundaries too.

I have seen too many examples of great players continue to get punished by the lack of awards or acknowledgement because they attended a small school or played a 1A/2A type schedule, or never made it out of sectionals. Sometimes one great player is not enough, it takes a team. The system is setup to reward people transferring to schools like Heritage. Not bashing Heritage but families go there for a reason and academics is a small part of it, generally speaking and i won't argue about that either.

And for every example you could name, one could be named of a player who attended, and played at a small school that elevated their game to get the acknowlegement you speak of, without attending the private schools. Moses comes to mind. Granted, she had a supporting cast there, but would have made a name for herself regarless. It's about the player, not the school. If your a solid player with a solid game, and go the extra mile with summer and travel play to promote yourself, you'll be on someone's radar no matter where you play school ball. You mention not getting any recognition due to small school schedule, or not getting out of sectionals. This year the north POY was a Junior from a small 3A farming community, that didn't get out of sectionals. The south POY was a Senior from a small 2A school that got defeated by HC in their sectional. The system is set up to reward players who have game, and not only promote themselves, but have help with coaches and others promoting them. If your player isn't getting the recognition you feel they deserve, maybe they need some promotional help. In all the years I've been involved with the sport, it's been my experience that, there and many, many people out there that are very good at finding those "diamonds" in the ruff. JMO

JMO You made some good points, I will give you that. It is still about how deep a team goes into the tournament, generally speaking. When I speak of the system I am talking about the process and not the MEDIA's selection of a Player of the Year. While the media, Indy Star, may recoginize those players, I don't consider that a part of the process. The coaches association and a handful of coaches have an extraordinary amount of power and influence on who and who doesn't make things like the all-state teams etc...
