"Off to Chile to bring back some more Hoosiers." -- tweeted this morning by IU's head coach.
Here's a novel idea. How about sticking around Indiana and try to lock up some local talent so there's more than two or three in-state players on the roster at a time? Three years ago there were four Hoosiers (still a low number, given the talent that's come through here) and two starting, team wins 21 games. The past two seasons, two Indiana kids total and the program has back-slid to 9 wins.
Did we not learn from the example of Mike Davis? You can't combine not winning games while also alienating your base by not locking up local players that could help the program. Evansville went to the NCAA's four year ago with Rebekah Parker and Courtney Felke (among four Hoosiers) leading the way. Ball State beat Tennessee three years ago in the NCAA's with Porchia Green, Kiley Jarrett, Audrey McDonald, Kyleigh Jones, and Amber Clark on the roster. How can schools like that do what Indiana can't, go to--and in Ball State's case--win a game at nationals? Something IU hasn't done since 1983! Forget Chile, forget Latvia, forget Hawaii and Florida, and start getting some kids from the best basketball state in the nation into the Cream and Crimson! Or else, I suspect, this will be the last trip on to Chile on IU's dime that this staff makes.

From the timesfreepress.com
DALTON, Ga. — Dalton High School basketball star Quaneisha McCurty, who led the Lady Catamounts to the GHSA Class AAA championship game, will sign with Indiana University next month."McCurty had committed to Louisville University but had a change of heart after Louisville expressed concern about her eligibility and considered asking her to attend a junior college. Indiana coach Felisha Legette-Jack previously had recruited her, and it was a program McCurty thought highly of."

Ob10, I couldn't agree with you more! The truly sad part is that there' s a big exposure event right there in Bloomington this weekend! Coach Jack personally made her way all over the South two weeks ago, but won't stay home to recruit when talent is coming right into your living room! Is she afraid there will be too many Indiana girls there or what? Smaller schools with inferior facilities and half the resources,(ie; Xavier, Bowling and Green ) are waltzing right into her backyard and snatching kids that IU should've been all over AND had considerably more success. Even Wisconsin, a team within their own confrence, recognizes the talent here and out recruits IU in their own state. Pitiful!!

IRealtalk, been down ther all weekend as well. There is some real talent down there. Alot of Ohio schools there to keep talent in state. Look for The Cincy Heat's top squad to win or come close. It would be great to hear about a big time recruit from Indiana at IU. I have seen some great Indina talent do well.

I think I'd not be reaching to say FL-J is on the hot seat this season.

Update from Bloomington. Cincy Heat fell to a good Gym Rats team, that was in turn beat handily by a Kentucky Premier Team. That Ky Premier Team, was suppose to play the other Ky Premier Team in the championship game. Looks like the the all star game may be a challenge next year. Both those Ky teams played well. They may be "stacked" as the Indiana Teams may be more watered down.but the talent, speed,. and tenacity has me wondering . Don't get me wrong, I will always cheer for our girls, and I hope I am wrong, but watch out. I saw more standouts from KY than in state players I did not see all the games....what did you see.? Just curious. I know should have maybe been a different post, but it did all happen in Bloomington.

With the exception of Sydney Moss (Florida) and MAYBE April Wilson (a real stretch for Purdue), Kentucky's 2012 class is pretty brutal. There's just not a ton of talent there. The Kentucky Premier team I saw mixed in several to-be juniors...now THAT class is an amazing one, the best Kentucky has turned out since at least 2004 but arguably their best ever. I would think Moss would give Kentucky the slight edge next year, but 2013 should be a war, Kentucky's perimeter strength (Greenwell and Epps) against Indiana's inside might (Mavunga and Reimer). Indiana will be a lot deeper but we all know that guards tend to have their way in those All-Star games. Should be great.
As for what's going on in Bloomington, pretty stunning. 21 wins to 14 to 9 and virtually no shot of improvement this upcoming season after graduating their three leading scorers. And completely shut out in recruiting in-state. Kind of staggering to see the extension given. Looks like that three decade wait for a single NCAA tournament win will continue.

To be fair, the three IU assistants were seen at the Bloomington event this week. However, if the head coach is the face of the program and if you're trying to re-establish the relationships in-state, you need to be there and not half a hemisphere away.

In defense of Coach Jack, she and her entire staff spent the past 3 days at the Next Level Exposure event at ISSA this past Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. They were watching all Indiana talent as no team from outside the state were playing. The Gym Rats, The Family, FBC, and Indiana's Finest all had their top teams playing in this event, and actually all the Indiana schools were in attendance. It was nice to see so many Indiana teams staying local for an event, and having the school show up and recruit them.
