Just three seasons ago these two were playing for a national championship. Only one of them looks like a statewide contender this year as the Giants bolted to a 13-0 lead out of the gates and 29-10 at the quarter en route to a blowout over SBW. To be perfectly honest, didn't have much expectation for BD with the loss of Goss, as this was a rather pedestrian offensive team last year minus her output. They might still be limited on that end, but facts are facts--this is an extremely athletic team, they will still swarm you defensively as well as anyone in the state, and by my count there were at least eight future college scholarship players wearing the Purple. Teague had 18 points and looked as confident as I've ever seen her, knocking down a midrange jumper, driving from the high post, and demanding the ball on the low block. Mills-Harris and Jones (16 points) also looked like future D1 prospects. If the sophomore Cuttino (11 points) comes along to give them two 6'2 posts inside, look out. Cuttino laid a screen near midcourt that absolutely flattened Washington standout freshman Tiara Murphy (15 points) in a way that simply called to mind a bug being splattered on a windshield...the ref blew the call horribly (whistled a block) and if I were Murphy I'd have strangled a teammate for not calling out the pick. The lead swelled to 24 by halftime and then 34 before BD coasted the rest of the way. Washington has a decent young nucleus and is impressively athletic, but it's going to take some improvement to see them competing with Penn come tournament time. Meanwhile, Brownsburg might have gotten BD out of the gates but I wouldn't bet against Lentz's team come sectional.
