As wide open as the race is this year, I am considering a Miss Basketball Watch page on our site. The page would provide updates on all of the candidates as the second half of the season unfolds.
If we do this, I will need some help from those of you out there who are following, coaching and/or promoting certain seniors who are "Miss Basketball worthy."
I need help for the following initial list of players. If you would be able to help, please drop me a note at contactus@roundballreview.com and we'll get you set up on our site with editing access to your player's page. Pages will need to have a photo of the player, stats, honors, season highlights, etc.
Players in bold have volunteers:
Jordin Alexander Brionna Barnett Katie Brewer (we know she is injured, but deserves to be on this list) Jessica Brown Shelbi Chandler Natalie Cohlmeyer Princess German Lakan Hasser-Smith Kasey Johnson Courtney Kvachkoff Blaire Langlois Jalynn McClain Taylor Miller Amanda Moore Alex Morton Jocelyn Mousty Raveen Murray Bethany Murrell Lexus Murry Mackenzie Reasor Nyla Reuter Lakin Roland Nicole Rogers Jessica Rupright Akilah Sims Jill Steinmetz Nariah Taylor Shawnece Teague Brittany Webb Brittany Wells Miracle Woods
If you know of a senior who is not on this list that is "Miss Basketball worthy," please let us know who they are and we will add them. (It would also help if you would be willing to manage the profile for that player as well.)
We are hoping to have good participation. Of course, we will not be able to control which players are profiled and which are not. If no one steps forward to manage player profiles.
Thanks,
JW

Sorry. Inadvertantly left one person off the list. She is now on.
I have had only one offer to help so far. I will need a minimum of 10 players in order to make this worthwhile. Once those are up, we will probably get more.
Please let me know if you're interested in helping!

Is it possible for the Indianapolis Star to say that no one will wear the #1 jersey this year? I can't fathom there being one candidate that gets even a quarter of the votes. There will be players left off the All-Star team that will be just as good (if not better) than whoever winds up winning Miss Basketball. I've never seen a class like this where no candidate(s) have created any separation from the pack.

I have offers of help for six players right now. I need ten players in order to get this started, or it will not be worth the effort to create all of the templates I will need for this project.
I know we don't get the traffic we used to on this board, so I will post over on JH's board for some help.

Observer, I can't remember a year like this either. I think the tournament will be HUGE for the results of Miss Basketball this year. No one player is riding a tide going into the tournament season and whichever senior makes the biggest impact for her team to a first place trophy could benefit greatly in the end.

Picked up two more offers to help. Just need two more players to get this off the ground.

Thanks to all of you who have stepped forward!

i think Warren Central has two girls that often get overlooked...starting with Linzi Moore shes a four year varsity player she averaged 16ppg last year and is averaging 16ppg this year also.....good shooter from the arc and can create off the dribble....Bre Denny is another 4 year starter very aggressive on defense loves to pressure the ball, can create off the dribble and get to the bucket at will.... both have led Warren Central to 2 sectional championships and 67 wins so far in 4 years and is currently ranked 8th in the state right now.

Lesley Fisher from Plainfield is having a great year and is posting stats similar to those players you have on the list. She is an aggressive player and is able to play all positions on the floor.

I know there are some girls putting up great numbers this year that are not on this list. Lesly Fisher is one from Plainfield. I agree with the previous post, as well as Linzy Moore and Bri Denny. Another girl who has been coming along nicely this season is Ariel Capps from Decatur Central. She is putting up good stats every game.

Any player who is not on the list but who has a volunteer to manage a page for her can drop me a note so I can set up their profile page.

As her coach at Hauser Jr/Sr High School, I'm glad to see Taylor Miller on the above list. She is an exceptional player and individual. She puts up great stats while being unselfish and making her teammates better. As of today, she has 421 points this season (most in the state per Varvee) for a 24.8 ppg. average, 1873 career points and counting (42nd all-time in the state's history), and a full ride to Ball State. She is an all-around player and is worthy of consideration. I've offered to manage Taylor's page.

If we're looking at past trends, who has been eliminated from the discussion?
Since the Junior All-Star games were established in 1996, every Miss Basketball winner was named to this team the prior summer. If that holds, scratch Shelbi Chandler, Natalie Cohlmeyer, Princess German, Lakan Hasser-Smith, Taylor Miller, Bethany Murrell, Lexus Murry, Mackenzie Reasor, Jill Steinmetz, Nariah Taylor, Shawnece Teague, Brittnay Webb, and Brittany Wells.
In the same time span, no player that's missed any big chunk of their senior year due to injury has been named Miss Basketball (although several have made the All-Star team). Scratch Katie Brewer and Jalynn McClain.
The overriding sentiment I've heard discussed around the state has been whoever took their team the furthest in the state tournament would see their name shoot up the list. Losing in the sectionals in this year of any could be crippling. Although there have been two eventual winners who bowed out in sectionals in the past 11 years, it would seem to be very difficult to overcome that this time around. Which might spell doom for the candidacy for players like Blair Langlois, Raveen Murray, Lakin Roland, Jordin Alexander, Courtney Kvachkoff, Kasey Johnson, Amanda Moore, Jocelyn Mousty, and Nyla Rueter.
Again, in a year as wide open as this one, past trends might wind up having no bearing. But they tend to trend for a reason. That being the case, if history serves as any indication, the list of candidates that fit the bill thus far include: Brionna Barnett, Jessica Brown, Alex Morton, Nicole Rogers, Jessica Rupright, Akilah Sims, and Miracle Woods.
