I have not posted in a long time. But went to my alma mater tonight, and thought a post was in order.
Great competitive game, most of the kids in this game went to school together, as did the parents. It was senior night and a young lady from Brebeuf that has flown under the radar since starting as a freshman, and playing against the toughest schedule year in year out, was the difference. Just look at these kids from Prep, and the schedule that they have had to face.
Martha Bill is the only senior on this team. Her classmates left when the going got tough. Volleyball coach makes it difficult for he girls to play basketball too.
Bill hits 9 bout of 10 from the line in the 4th to win the game for the Braves on Senior night. Shows what leadership, hard work and pure will is all about. She plays for any top 20 team she is a star. She starts , on any team in the state, The Braves just do not have the talent. and depth, from what I understand she plays every second barring foul trouble. I looked up stats on Varvee, and they are not up to date. What I do know is she shoots 87 percent from the line and over 40 percent from the arc, against that tough schedule.
She has played with the Family, went to the deep south finals and led the team in scoring with kids that play at Warren, Pike and many more,.and played with the best.. 3.85 i honors at Prep, academic scholarships to nursing school and opportunities to play at the next level.
Know one knows her accomplishments and her leadership skills, but I was so impressed with this young lady tonight.. No, I am not saying Miss Basketball, or even all star team, although put her with talent and look out. I am sure that will not happen.
Losing teams that play tough schedules do not have players that get their do. Just wanted to throw some love to M. Bill. Loved hearing the crowd chanting her name, and MVP as she daggered Chatard.

Brebeuf alumni are calling it "Prep" now? I remember when it was just Brebeuf High School. How much additional tuition did you they charge you when they changed it to "Prep?"

Their dark road uniforms say Braves, but the yellow jerseys have said Prep on them for quite awhile. And if you follow the link below, you'll see the Brebeuf Preparatory state championship banner dating back over three decades. So it goes back at least that long. But congrats on going this deep into the season to take your first swipe at a Catholic school. www.newenglandflagandbanner.com/gallery/ba_brebeuf.jpg

Still as prickly as ever, I see, Observer. It wasn't a swipe because it's Catholic. In fact, I went to Brebeuf's sister high school when it was an all-boys school and was called Brebeuf High school. I know when they changed the name (and the tuition) and I'm sure I know a bit more about Jesuits than you do. I know lots of people who have gone there and go there. I have never heard ANY of them refer to it as "Prep." I was poking fund at the affectation (big word - look it up), not a "Catholic" school, with which I'm sure I'm much more familiar than you.

Yep, prickly as ever. And you're as big a jerk as ever. Comforting how some things never change.
It's been Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School since the day it opened in 1962. If you remember it as anything otherwise you're imagining.

If you remember it as anything otherwise you're imagining. NOT EXACTLY..... Brebeuf is named after Jean De Brebeuf, a martyred Jesuit Priest. The name was originally Brebeuf Preparatory high School, home of the Braves. The Braves nick name came from Jean De Brebeuf's evangelizing to the Heron Indians. they have always been the Braves as an all boys school and once they went coed in 1977. During the time they were Brebeuf Prepatory many teens on the north side revered to the students at Brebeuf as Preps, or preppies, students from Brebeuf often referred to their school as "The Prep". There was an administration that did not think "braves" was very politically correct and tried to remove the Braves from the athletic teams and instead of putting Braves on their uniforms the administration settled for Prep on the uniforms, or a large B on baseball hats, football helmets etc. Then a board and administration wanted Brebeuf to be more closely associated with and thought of in the community with the long standing success of Jesuit Educators, thus changing the name from Brebeuf Prepatory High School to Brebeuf Jesuit High School. With that being cleared up there is actually a mural of Jean De Brebeuf being burned at the stack by the Iroquois Indians on the wall in the schools cafeteria, however it has been covered up with drywall because some found it offensive. went to the game and will say Martha Bill has done a ton with very little help. Brebeuf was better than Chatard as Chatard is very young and will be a force in the next few years and extremely intense team and should be back in the state hunt in a year or twoBill helped will her team to a victory before a full house as it was a boys girls double header. A Great game with many good plays and some very dicy calls both ways. The refs let this good game get out of control, but Bill made the plays to finish the game off for the Lady Braves.

It costs more today then back n the day, but relatively speaking it was always very very expensive as it is not supported by the catholic church and it's parishes. It's a private school and has always been the second highest tuition in the area second to Park T.

Brebeuf does not have a sister school, though, when it was all boys many of the male students dated girls from Ladywood St. Agnes which later merged with Cathedral when Cathedral was bought by private group of businessmen lead by Robert V. Welch, which is now located on the original campus of Ladywood St. Agnes. If you are referring to Chatard that is not a sister school to Brebeuf. Brebeuf has changed substantially over the years. Going from an all boys school, where they wore ties to school every day to coed etc. The biggest change probably has been, Jesuits, being more liberal by their nature and teaching, the philosophy of the school to be much more liberal than any other private school in the state. It is also only 50% catholic in student population. But Prep 82 knows this and thats why he's called prep. Its not new they were known as The Prep in the 80's and before.
