To Coachie, You are obviously very close to the Perry program. I am wondering why you never mention Melinda Hawthorne along with Bose and Moore. She looks to me like a far more versatle player who can play a number of positions. Her future looks pretty bright to me. She just needs to get a little stronger. What are your thoughts.

I agree ghs. Hawthorne is going to be a really good if not great player over the next two seasons. Very athletic and reminds me of Burleson from last year's team. Sky's the limit if she sets her heart on working as hard as she can to become a major contributor. I like her as a player. She needs some experience and confidence, but I think she'll be a factor this year. Some really good athlete's on that Perry team.

Sticking with my CIC Conference Morgan Groover of Elwood could be pretty good this year, especially in a conference that doesn't have any dominant centers.

Morgan Groover is one of the best players in this class. I've watched her have to take on some giants and she is a battler. Off the court she's one of the nicest around.

Morgan is very athletic with exceptional strength and tenacity. In addition, she's obviously had solid instruction as she clearly has a wide range of post moves in her repetoire.
That said, I would like to see Morgan develop more game away from the basket. She's able to dominate against most high school centers but, if she wants to play at the D1 level, she will need to develop a reliable 12-15 foot jump shot and the ability to drive/finish around the basket.

hawthorne has not played much varsity yet.....very little.....she could have a huge huge breakout year this season at that level.......will be fun to watch her play.....plays alot like burleson from last year's team only hawthorne has the capability of alot more scoring and rebounding in a game.......she should and could be very valuable to the team's success this season.....the only reason i mentioned moore and bose is because they have played for a couple of years already and have been quite valuable to the team in their efforts.......there are a couple of other juniors that should help the program out alot this year too.......should be some bench depth for perry.......not very tall........but quick........and good defensively.....

There's still time for all those juniors to gain some valuable insight on the recruiting process! This Sun. at 4:00 p.m. there's a Hoops Recruit workshop especially for juniors at the Indianapolis Athletic Club downtown. Get the knowledge you need to succeed!

to ghs........hawthorne from perry should add some valuable time this season.....she has a lot to give to the program........i was speaking of those who have already played varsity..........she will just add to the strong list of juniors who should be playing......5 or 6 of them i think........ the sophs will get lots of great jv time this year with little bench time.....so they will add to that junior group for next season.........and who knows what can happen......the sky's the limit........right???

I know we're a small school but I think that Lindsay Crawford is an excellent player. She has worked extremely hard every year and during the summer and fall. She deserves some stars!

Seeker there is only one Miss Basketball candidate next year and it is not from your wife's school. Nothing against all the talent they should be very good, but Howell is everything. By the way why did Whitted transfer back to NV.

Hazel,
I must respond to your statement that Howell is, "everything". You may think she is everything, but there are many that do not. I personally think she is one of the best spot up shooters I have ever seen. But I feel her all around game is not at the same level. I am sure you will disagree and that is fine, but that is why everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.
Lastly, what makes you think that I am who you think I am. Believe it or not, there are people out there that like HSE, and guess, they may not even be a coach at the school, or a parent. Imagine that.

Here's how I view Howell...she puts up numbers that are comparable to what Gearlds and Stephanie White did their first two year, and less (scoring-wise) than Zolman. Team-wise, she has helped them to far greater success than either of those three did their freshmen and sophomore seasons. Time will tell if she pushes into that elite group, but based on her first two seasons, the comparisons are valid...and no one else in the class of '05 comes close when you combine individual numbers and team success. Will she win Miss Basketball? Maybe someone explodes these last two years, maybe Howell suffers with Closser gone. But midway through their careers, it's extremely difficult to make an argument otherwise.

you guys are arguing over ms b-ball in the year 2005...its only 2003. so many other players can improve and get better. No one is set in the running yet. who knows maybe some girl from outta state will come in. its 2 years away, plus why put more pressure on someone b/c everyone thnks she is going to b ms b-ball when everyone needs to let the player improve and work rather than apply unwanted and not needed pressure. Yea i agree Howell is good, i got to c her play pretty close, but that still doesnt mean that someone is going to want it more than she does and work 10x harder. But i'm not saying that she isnt a runner, but lets all just remember that its 2003 and 2005 is a ways away.
